PUBLIC THEOLOGY
Great St Mary’s has a long tradition of creating a hospitable space for proactive, intelligent, theological engagement with critical issues in the world.
As this coming academic year unfolds, you will find below details of how we will be exploring some key themes in the life of the world, drawing on local expertise from nationally and globally significant thinkers, and how you can get involved.
As the programme develops over the coming years, we will seek to use our unique position in the life of city, church, and university to bring together a range of perspectives on these key themes. We will focus on connection-making with partner organisations, enabling conversation between diverse disciplines and different worldviews, and between researchers and practitioners. We will seek to foster an environment that promotes generosity and learning, rather than shame, in tackling difficult issues, and enables positive provocative encounters.
Public theology events on environment and climate will be offered in conjunction with our ECLAS-funded educational programme, bringing together scientists, theologians and people of all ages.
The programme will also draw on the arts, through exhibitions and performances hosted at GSM and Michaelhouse, and through theological engagement with exhibitions at some of the City’s museums, galleries and venues.
A podcast series in partnership with Girton College will be hosted by Dr Charlie Bączyk-Bell.
